You will never run out of opportunities for adventure or relaxation on Cortes Island. Choose between hikes, water activities or spend the day chilling at one of the island’s many beautiful beaches and lakes. Cortes Island and the surrounding land and oceans are home to an abundance of wildlife such as eagles, herons, deer, wolves, sea otters, seals, sea lions and whales.

Once on the island hitchhiking is a common mode of transport to get around the island. Visitors can find much of what they will need to enjoy their stay locally; we have a natural food store, grocery shops, restaurants, farmers’ markets, marinas, boat mooring, gasoline, post offices, liquor stores and a health clinic.

Markets
Cortes Island has three weekly markets showcasing our local artisans and offering a selection of sumptuous home-baking and fresh fruit and vegetables. Our weekly markets include: the Friday Market at Manson’s Hall, Saturday at the Gorge Marina Resort, and Sunday at Squirrel Cove. For market times & additional information, please visit Our Cortes.

The Famous Free Store
A favorite tourist destination – our local recycling depot and Free Store where locals and visitors can ‘shop’ for treasures and/or leave behind things they no longer need.

Mark Your Calendars
Some of our better-known annual events include Seafest (May), Garden Tour (June), Cortes Day (July), The Cortes Island Music Festival, Lovefest (August), and Sandcastle Day (August). Each of these celebrations are family friendly and in typical island fashion will feature tasty food and some amazing music. And yes, there is usually dancing!
